M.G.R Movies In Kovai For 7 Days

 

 

 

On Occasion of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and General Secretary of AIADMK amma Jayalalitha’s 64th birthday Royal Theatre in Kovai is been screening Puratchi Thalaiver and Puratchi Thalaivi Combination movies for seven days.

M.G.R Grandson At Marathur Brothers School

 

 

Periyaver M.G.Chakrapani  and  Makkal Thilagam M.G.R’s grandson M.G.C.B.Pradeep had visited his grandfathers school “Yanaiadi school” at Kumbhakonam. A few weeks back there was an article in Kumudham Reporter (Click Here for the article) about this school that this school is in a bad shape and due to mismanagement , strength was about 200 children and now only 30 children are studying.Hearing this M.G.C.B.Pradeep grandson of M.G.C and M.G.R and editor of Olikirathu Urimai Kural Mr.B.S.Raj felt bad and flew over to Kumbhakonam and had a look on the school and enquired about the school situation .He and Mr.B.S.Raj donated some money for the children for buying school books. He also promised the Head Mistress Vijaykumari that he will speak to all M.G.R Fans to donate something for the school.

    

Head Mistress Vijaykumari Showed the Records of Periyaver M.G.Chakrapani  and  Makkal Thilagam M.G.R’s details like date of joining and date leaving.The Head Mistress told them that the management had released some funds for the school.

   

Reporter Mr.Gurumurthy who helped in putting the article in Kumudham Reporter  and AIADMK members were also present when M.G.C.B.Pradeep visited the school and they also promised that they will help in betterment of the school. Editor of Olikirathu Urimai Kural Mr.B.S.Raj  distributed Olikirathu Urimai Kural Magazine for the children.

Fame eluded this sibling of an icon “Periyaver M.G.Chakrapani”

 

M.G. Chakrapani, who is remembered on his birth centenary, played many memorable roles.

He had the talent to hit big time and enter the glittering league. But stardom and success, which he richly deserved, somehow eluded him in spite of his fairly long career in Tamil Cinema. One reason was his younger brother happened to be the iconic M.G. Ramachandran.

Marudur Gopala Chakrapani, affectionately known as ‘Yettan' (elder brother in Malayalam), was in his own way popular and left behind interesting performances in Tamil cinema of the 1940s and the following decades - which are remembered to this day.

Chakrapani was born in Vadavanur, Kerala, on January 13, 1911, to Gopala Menon and Sathyabhama. Initially, he was named ‘Neelakantan,' but because his father was a staunch ‘Vaishnavaite' he was renamed Chakrapani. The family migrated to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) where Gopala Menon became a magistrate in Kandy (where MGR was born). However there were problems in the family and he passed away early leaving his wife, two sons and a daughter virtually penniless in a strange land. The daughter also died young. The mother and her two young sons returned to India and relocated to Kumbakonam where Sathyabhama had a brother. Life was so harsh that it affected the education of the two brothers. Chakrapani studied up to the seventh standard in Yanaiadi School (Kumbakonam), while MGR had to drop out of school even earlier. Left with no option, the mother entered them into professional Tamil theatre in a ‘Boys' drama company. It was a popular, cultural movement at that period, thanks to its founder, Sankaradas Swamigal. At one time there were around 300 Tamil drama companies and the two brothers joined the most famous of them – the ‘Madurai Original Boys' Company (MOBC).

சுமார் எட்டு வயது இருக்கும் போது எனக்கு புரட்சித் தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் அவர்களை நேரில் காணும் வாய்ப்புக் கிடைத்தது.அதற்கு வழி வகுத்தவர் அவரது தீவிர ரசிகரான என் தந்தை. எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் ரசிகர்கள் பலர் அவரைக் காணும் வாய்ப்புக்காகத் தேசிய அரங்கத்தின் நுழைவாயிலில் அலையெனக் குழுமி யிருந்தனர். திடீரெனக் கூட்டத்தில் சலசலப்பும் ஆரவாரமும் பெருகியது, கோஷங்கள்முழங்கின, கைதட்டல்களும், விசில்களும் காதைக் கிழித்தன. எம்.ஜி.ஆர் அவர்களின் வண்டி தென்பட்டது, ரம்யமானதோற்றமும், புது மலர்போன்ற புன்னகையும் பூத்தவாறுவண்டியில் இருந்து இறங்கினார்

எம்.ஜி.ஆர்..அவரது முகத்தைக்கண்டதும், சிறுவனான என் மனமும் அவரதுவசீகரத்தால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டது. .என் தந்தையின் கையைப் பற்றி, ‘எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் புன்னகை எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்திருக்கிறது' என்று கூறினேன். நிகழ்ச்சி முடிந்ததும்,என்னை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு அரங்கத்தைவிட்டு வெளியேற அப்பா மிகவும்சிரமப்பட்டார்.எப்படியோ கூட்டத்தோடு கூட்டமாக வெளியேறி எம்.ஜி.ஆருடையவண்டி புறப்படும் வேளையில், அதன்அருகே போய்நின்றுகொண்டார். அந்தகூட்டத்தின் தள்ளுமுள்ளுவில் நான் அப்பாவைப் பிரிந்து விட்டேன்
