MGR’s Debut Film “Sathileelavathi” -Part 2

Sachidanandam Pillai took back the rights, Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar was upset.Then one of his assistants a youngster, told not to worry and he had  a script similar to Pathibakthi.He also said there is too many differences between Pathibakthi story and his story.
  After the youngster narrating the story to Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar ,the story was liked by Mudaliyar and started to do the movie in the banner of Marudachalam Chettiar’s Manorama Films.It was named “Sathileevathi” and dialogues was written by Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar ,director was an American ,it was his first tamil movie.He was Elis R Duncan. And the youngster who told the story was S.S.Vasan.

They had casted with M.K.Radha, M.R.Yanambal(Later M.K.Radha and M.R.Yanambal became life partners.) ,M.G.Chakrapani,M.G.Ramachanran,T.S.Balaiah,N.S.K.
M.G.R played the role as Poilce Inspector.Sathileevathi movie was staged as play initially and it was easier for Elis R Duncan to direct.
The movie was a huge success and it ran for 125 days

MGR’s Debut Film “Sathileelavathi” -Part 1

M.G.R’s first debut film is “Sathileelavathi” and was released on 28 march 1936.After years of hard work in stage performance,both the brothers got a chance in film industry in the able guidance of Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar.
                        Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar, a famous drama teacher at that time, saw a famous drama “Pathibakthi”  and wanted to make the drama into a film with the same title. K.P.Kesavan had acted as a hero in Madurai Boys company‘s Pathibakthi a famous drama on those days.Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar wanted to do the film with his son M.K.Radha in the lead role.He also wanted to work with the producer Kovai Marudachalam Chettiar and then they asked the rights to Madurai Boys company’s owner  Mr.Sachidanandam Pillai, though he had done the drama ‘Pathibakthi”,later he agreed to with it.
                  Kovai Marudachalam Chettiar started the  production to produce the drama to film ,but at that time Sachidanandam Pillai‘s close friend convinced him that the script is very good and instead of giving to somebody he can itself produce the film and hero as K.P.Kesavan. Sachidanandam Pillai took back the rights, Mr.Kandasamy Mudaliyar was upset.

M.G.R's 'Thani Piravi' Movie Re-Released

Devar Films Black and White Movie Thani Piravi was released  in Natraj theater. 
Huge Crowd gathered last sunday. Inspite of IPL matches are going on ,there were huge response for our beloved leader. Some theatres stopped screening night shows due to IPL matches ,but IPL matches aren't important than  our leader ,one fan says.
Mr.Roop Kumar of Srimgr.com had gone to the theatre on sunday and has updated in his site ,Total collection from Matinee and evening show is more than Rs.9,000 plus for 2 shows theater capacity is 1200 plus for a black and white movie, highest run for this movie is 75 days for the first release .

M.G.R Completes Entering Into Cinema Industry By 75yrs

This Day March 28th 'Sathileelavathi' Movie was Released  

Marudur Gopala Ramachandran (January 17, 1917–December 24, 1987), popularly known as MGR, Puracthi Nadigar, Ponmana Chemmal and Puratchi Thalaivar,& Makkal Thilagam , was a Tamil film actor and Chief Minister of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu from 1977 until his death 

In 1953, MGR joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He became a member of the state Legislative Council in 1962. He was first elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1967, and subsequently in the elections of 1971, 1977, 1980 and 1984. In 1972, he founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which contested and won the subsequent elections. In 1977, he became the first film actor in India to become the Chief Minister of a state. He continued as the Chief Minister for the rest of his life In October 1984, MGR was diagnosed with kidney failure and was rushed to the U.S. for treatment.Tamil Nadu and over 100 people attempted self-immolation.
He died on December 24,1987.
